Marvellous Madge free-wheels towards her century

When Helensburgh’s Madge Horder was being courted by her late husband, Harold, he would take her for a spin on his motorbike.

“When we were dating he would tell me to sit back and hold onto his hips,” she said. “When we were engaged, he said ‘Sit close and put your arms around me’.

“It didn’t matter if I fell off before!”

The only thing Mrs Horder wanted for her 98th birthday was to go for another bike ride so her daughter, Margaret, organised it through Just Cruisin’s Steve Melchior.

She sat side-saddle on the big trike and rode across the Sea Cliff Bridge.

“It was quite fine,” she said.
