Landcom consults community on final land release

More than 30 residents and Wollongong City Council representatives attended Landcom’s community information session on 16 May to hear about the next stage at Gymea Glade.

The development site is on the corner of Cemetery Road and Walker Street and covers 6.2 hectares, comprising 4.5 hectares of residential (53 lots) and 1.7 hectares of light industrial land.

The most common areas of concern raised at the information session were:
• Increased traffic volume and road safety in Walker Street
• Loss of vegetation
• Retention of Helensburgh’s village character
• Compatibility of industrial and residential development
• Pedestrian, cyclist and horse rider access across the development

Landcom is considering how it can address some of the issues raised by the community prior to submitting a Development Application to Council. The next release of residential lots at Gymea Glade is not expected until 2007.
