Chamber celebrates 10-year milestone Chamber members promote the Northern Illawarra at Bald Hill The Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and will mark the occasion with a dinner on 6 June at the Cliffhanger Restaurant at Bulli Tops. On 29 April 1996, an enthusiastic group of local business owners formed an action group to address the problem of the Northern Illawarra’s lack of identity. The team soon became very active in pursuing this goal and their first major achievement was the formation of the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce (NICC). The group was recognised as an official body by Wollongong City Council and became a conduit between the council and the local business community. It also managed to create a network among themselves, forming strong professional and social relationships that have endured for the past 10 years. The 50-plus members and guests of the NICC, representing well-established as well as relatively new businesses between Helensburgh and Woonona, will be celebrating their achievements and discussing new issues at the anniversary dinner. The new logo symbolises the Northern Illawarra with green for the escarpment, blue for the sea, black winding “S” for the road connecting the businesses of the north and the south of the Northern Illawarra, and a lick of yellow for the beaches. Guests are welcome to attend the dinner. For reservations, please contact Barbara Allen on 4294 9295. The cost is $30 (BYO). |
