Ocean swim proves a challenge One of the most beautiful ocean swims enters its fifth year in 2006, with hundreds of adventurous swimmers expected to complete the 2.4km Stanwell Park Ocean Challenge on Sunday, 9 April. The swim starts at Coalcliff and runs along the escarpment to Stanwell Park beach. Getting out and back in can sometimes be difficult, depending on conditions, but, once in the open water, it’s spectacular. The water was so clear last year, organiser Andrew Perrin said: “You were in eight metres of water but you could count every grain of sand on the bottom.” The event starts at 10am with shuttle buses ferrying swimmers to Coacliff. Registration at the Stanwell Park Surf Life Saving Club is from 8am to 9.30am on the day or online at www.stanwellparksurfclub.com or www.oceanswims.com. On-line entries cost $25 and close on 7 April while mail and personal entries (direct to Helensburgh Stanwell Park SLSC) close on 6 April. Late entries (on race day) cost $30. |
