Feathers tickle flyers fancy

The Northern Ilawarra Chamber of Commerce will hold a Gala Ball at the Panorama Restaurant on 10 November to celebrate 100 years since the first officially observed heavier-than-air machine took to the skies.
This was achieved by Brazilian-born, French-educated aviation pioneer, Alberto Santo Dumont, who used the Hargrave box kites and reached 200 feet.
Hargrave was inspired by the flight of birds which became the symbol and inspiration for the design of his craft.
The theme for the ball reflects both the Brazilian and ornithological influences. Named Carnival de las Plumas, this translates to Festival of the Feathers.
It promises to be a gala evening of great food, wine and dancing, featuring two world-class Salsa and Samba groups providing the Latino entertainment. The event is also a major fundraiser for the Northern Illawarra Chamber of Commerce, with all funds raised supporting community projects and events. Many fantastic prizes will be raffled on the night.
