2010- Happy New Year, Happy New Decade?

Good thing about a new year is we get all fired up for what we want to achieve, personally or professionally. With new momentum we come up with new year resolutions or goals we want to succeed in during the year.  How do we make sure that we stick to those goals by the time Easter sets in?
Sally-Anne Blanshard, who has just established a new local business Nourish Coaching, gives an insight into making goals, sticking to them and rewarding your successes:
10 - Grab a pen and some paper and jot down all the areas in your life.  This might include work, friends, family, finances, holidays etc
9 - Put a tick alongside the areas you are happy with and do not need any focus on - acknowledge what is going well for you right now
8 - Highlight the areas you would like some support or enhancement - what would you like this to look like?
7 - Create your new list - you might write - FINANCE - to save a deposit for a house so I can have a Christmas moving in party, or EXERCISE - to run along the Sea Cliff Bridge without stopping
6 - With your new goals work out what you need to do to get there - who will help you? What will you do if you have any setbacks? How can you keep motivated and on-track.
5 - Declare your goals to the world (ok - perhaps your friends and family) let them know what you want to achieve so you have accountability - they will ask how you are going!
4 - Create visual reminders.  Put a picture of the house you want to buy, or the jeans you want to fit into onto the fridge, in the car or in your office - subtle reminders to keep your conscience on track
3 - Create a plan for the month, what do you need to do today, tomorrow, next week - allocate times to review your goals
2 - Reward yourself when things are going well, celebrate your successes, pat yourself on the back or indulge in that (small) Easter egg!  Then get straight back to it.
1 - Commit to yourself.  When you are committed to yourself, you will be in control of what you want to achieve.
